Christmastide and Epiphany
Sunday, November 4th, 2007Welcome home. How strange that greeting sounds when the home to which we come is a rude stable in the small town of Bethlehem. God welcomes us home in the gift of his Son. Despite all the busyness of this season, that is still its central message. With the beginning of Epiphany we turn to the Baptism of Christ and Jesus’ earthly ministry. The ripples from the small stone thrown into a quiet pool begin to spread from the stable in Bethlehem to the shepherds, the common people of the land, and then to the gentile lords, the mystic astrologers from the east. The Word has come to dwell among us, and the Good Word is spread. As Jesus was called by his father at his baptism, so are we called at ours, to become evangelists, heralds of the Good News of the Gospel. Join us in that enterprise as we walk this road of faith together.
